What do points make?
Last night we entertained the boing boing baggies at the Bridge, who began the game a full 50 points behind us in the table. Their chances of staying up looked remote before a ball had been kicked and didn't increase after 90 minutes.
We won 1-0, but it was one of those games where we could easily have finished 6 or 7 nil, without any difference in the match, bar the finishing from our front man. £24 million really doesn't seem to buy you much in the top striker shop these days, at least not when your name is Roman Abramovich. Anyone else would have got Drogba for £8m, but that is beside the point.
Last night, recovering from injury or not, barn-door, cow's arse and banjo spring to mind. The basics just don't seem to be there. I'd go as far as saying, that on current form, our friend Anders Frisk did us a bit of a favour in Barcelona, perhaps if Drogba had been available for the home leg, the list of the last eight teams in Europe might read differently...
West Brom didn't cause any problems, but then who expected them to? It's 11 points between us and 2nd place now, and the Man Utd game has been shifted back thanks to their win in the FA Cup at the weekend, to a new time in May where the result of the game will almost definitely not make a difference to the result of the season! Thanks Fergie!
